This video is the second in series and demos an F&B restaurant bar quality assurance form. This form used InfoPath Designer and the form published to SharePoint. The form uses Date picker, drop-down list linked to SharePoint List, option buttons, repeating table with running calculation function, an optional section, check boxes, text boxes & rich text boxes.
Whats Infopath Designer & InfoPath Filler ALL about? InfoPath has two components. One is the designer the second is the filler. As a form developer, you will use the designer to build your form and the filler to view (test) your development. The Filler is used by someone who fills in a form and then submits the completed form. This video is part of series and this video introduces you to both designer and filler.
This chapter covers selecting InfoPath template, inserting tables, date picker plus setting default display date, text boxes, deleting a field control, form previewing, printing and saving a template.
In this presentation, I want to show you how to capture what the user types in two fields and merge the data into one additional single field. For example their first and second name. I also want the cell to be a read-only cell. My next objective is data validation, for example, a field cannot be blank. I want the user to type their email address. I don’t want them to be able to submit the form without a valid email address. I also want to provide feedback, to my users, to let them know if they have inadvertently entered a typo error. Finally, I want users to be able to pick a restaurant name from an InfoPath drop-down list. So my last objective for this presentation is to create a data connection to SharePoint list. Linking two data fields into one field - 0:30 minutes Calculate, (merge) two fields into one for example first and the second name into the full name field. Building rules to catch incorrect or missing data - 5:13 minutes Apply rules to display validation error messages to textboxes when a user enters an invalid email address or no data has been entered (left) blank. A unique error message under each textbox is shown when an incorrect input has been entered. The error stands out with unique wording and coloured red. Constructing a data connection to a SharePoint list - 12:26 minutes You have a secondary data source that holds a list of entries; you want part of the data in the list - a name field, to be used to populate the items in a list box, InfoPath form.
Poor spelling immediately raises eyebrows as to your competence and that’s the very last thing you want having worked so hard. Template testing – 4:00 minutes Testing, is the end game and I’m going to state the obvious. When testing, only involve those who haven’t, participated in the development stage.

This presentation learning objective covers InfoPath views. The primary objective is to build a template from which all other forms derive. For example, form fillers shouldn’t access to the developer’s template. These users shouldn’t even know a developer’s template exists. However, these users may want to print the form without form colour shading. Perhaps they don’t need some form tables to print. The form may have a ‘for office use only’ section, and general users don’t need to know this form variation even exists. Creating and distributing specific forms for targeted users can increase end-user acceptance. Having viewed this video you will be able to create views for specific users.
Tables are used to organise InfoPath layout. Tables hold label names and the controls associated with the label name for example tick box, list drop-down list. You may have a need to use the same questions repeatedly. Repeating tables and sections enable this.

An electronic form that is difficult to find or requires additional software to complete may result in users simply not using the form.
